Earth/Space Science: This course is designed for the middle school student (6-8). Using a strong inquiry base approach students will handle meteorites, rocks and hardened volcanic lava. They will build working weather instruments and safely look directly at the Sun. Areas of study will be the Universe, galaxies, our solar system, the sun, moon, asteroids, meteors, and comets.
The role of Florida in space exploration will be examined. The influences, causes, and effects of weather will be explored. A biblical view of the Earth’s structures and history will be thoroughly assessed from a geologic standpoint. All topics are approached from an inquiry hands-on basis.
Required resources are the 4th Editions of Answers in Genesis: Our Universe, Our Weather and Water and Our Planet Earth books (3 books total) Students will need a 3-ring binder with 5 dividers. This class has a 40 dollar lab fee plus monthly tuition.

David received his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida in 1979 and Masters of Religious Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983. After graduating from NOBTS he returned to UCF for post baccalaureate work in education in order to qualify for a Florida Teaching Certificate. He received his Florida certification in 1985. His certifications are in Middle Grade Science, Biology, 9-12 History and Social Studies. In 1985, after 3 years of teaching high school and middle school history and science in private schools, he began his 31 years as a middle school science teacher for Orange County Public Schools. During his time with OCPS he taught life science, earth/space science and physical science at different times as he was placed “where his experience was needed most.” He and his wife Julie home schooled their four children for 20 years and during that time that he worked in public schools. He retired from OCPS in June of 2016 and is now looking forward to working with the homeschool community. David’s philosophy in teaching is that science should be as much of a hands-on experience as possible. The labs that he has written and will be using for this class have been distributed throughout Orange County Schools been published on the Florida Department of Educations website CPALMS.
